If your idea of paradise involves long walks on a quiet beach, swimming or snorkeling in crystal blue water, and lounging in a luxury hut in a private island resort, then a Maldives vacation is for you.

Where Is the Maldives?

The Maldives is a group of islands in the Indian ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka and India. Considered the flattest islands on earth, less than 10% of their whole area is land.

Of 1100 islands ( more or less ), only 200 are inhabited — 87 of which are the property of private island resorts.

What To Do During Your Maldives Vacation

A Maldives vacation is really all about luxury holidays with lots of relaxation and beach exploration . Night life is almost non-existent ( be aware of the curfew ) and even tours are limited to day trips.

If you find all the relaxation a bit too dull already though, there are a few activities that you can do.

1) Go to Male and experience the local lifestyle. Popular places that people check out are the fish and local market and the city mosque.

2) Take an inter-island tour usually offered by your hotel

3) Go around the island by renting a Dhoni ( a traditional fisherman’s boat ) . It’s not all that expensive and you get to take part in a cultural experience as well..

4) Resorts usually have facilities where you can go night fishing. If you are into this, why not spend the night catching fish? You can even have your catch cooked by the resort’s chef.

5) If you don’t dive, this is the best place and time to learn it.

6) If you like views from above, there are helicopter tours available for you to see Maldives from a high.
